Enabling Works to the New Velindre Cancer Centre, Whitchurch formed part of the Transforming Cardiff Services Programme and were delivered over multiple phases.
Lee Wakemans provided cost management services for the enabling works associated with the new Velindre Cancer Centre, including improvements to and construction of the dedicated access route to the new site at Northern Meadows, Whitchurch, Cardiff. The works comprised a new highway access from M4 Junction 32, a new bridge structure, emergency access from Park Road, improved pedestrian links to Coryton Station, and associated drainage and utilities infrastructure. A key milestone was reached when the bridge deck beams were lifted into position, paving the way for completion of the access road infrastructure and enabling the next phase of the wider cancer centre development to proceed. The new centre was planned to provide specialist and complex cancer treatment, including systemic anti-cancer therapy, radiotherapy, specialist palliative care, inpatient facilities, a specialist oncology assessment unit, outpatient services, radiology and nuclear medicine, while also supporting excellence in cancer services, research and development.
